spoil me, i mean. :)

i got the biggest surprise of my life when the security chick told me i had a parcel, and i cant recognise steph’s handwriting from a mile away.
i’m telling ya, coming home from a 12 hour day that started at 6am was worth it when you have something funky like that waiting for you at home!

on the relationship front..things have been getting interesting. or should i say, amusing. :)

while just surfing online aimlessly after being let off halfday (yayyy for clinic cancellations, esp on mondaysss) while waiting for ptleeee to come home, i was pleasantly surprised by a nice greeting as soon as he got to his computer.
thats not the amusing part. what was amusing was that pt brought his little mic to his bed to chat with me while half falling asleep and at 1025 UK time, i told him to just go ahead and sleep as he’s having long day shifts. we kept the webcam on, and i muted my mic.
just 15 mins later whilst enjoying my honey bunches cornflakes and chinatown snacks watching top model…i heard pt lee going “jennnnn”.
thinking he was feeling sick or something happened..i was like what what?

here comes the amoosement:
pt: “jenn arrr i think i need to sleep now la.”
jenn: “mmm? i thought you were meant to sleep a while ago.”
pt: “really? okay i’m going to sleep now.”
jenn: “yeppp. :):) go and sleep. :D”

hahaha! poor guy probably thought i was going to chew his head off for not talking to me for a substantial period of time..even half through his sleep he was subconsciously wary of me..
beholdddd the tigress of a girlfriend!
:)

things like that makes the start of a loooong week so much more enjoyable. :)

hello pt! :) <3<3<3 (and i NEVER make mooshy icons like this.)

into the deep end

well..so today i started my first day and spent it entirely in clinics. my day started at about 8 and off i went to do admin stuff and meet my course director..who then threw me into the afternoon clinic with 2 residents..who threw me into consulting, taking pap smears, cultures (i had to do damn a lot of whiff testing for fishy smells), and even a DRE complete with haemocult testing. (i threw the sample away accidently and had to fish it out of an overflowing bin of used cervical swabs and speculums. major disgusting. and who in the world has shit THAT smelly?!)

anyway my day ended at 7.30. it was a nightmare because my shoes were killing me and yep bloody stockings at the end of the day. sorry pt. i will change my shoes stat. :)

and from tomorrow i start at 6 everyday and only end when the residents end. (and they apparently can never end their day because they have too much work sooooo. byebye comfort. now i see how greys anatomy’s portrayal of hospital life is not too far from the real truth. minus the scandals of cos.)

HOWEVER. it has been thoroughly enjoyable. pt told me because i’m in a completely new place, and will only be doing it for a month each, i can be a completely different person if i wanted to. in a good way of cos. more outspoken, more confident, more unafraid to throw myself out there and act like how my british coursemates act on the wards. which i did try doing. and am happy to say, it worked like a charm. it may be early days yet, given that it’s only my first day and i may well burn out, but everyone has been exceptionally friendly. apart from the annoying american accent that seems to put a question mark at the end of everything they say, and a certain annoying drawwwwwl in the way they talk, everyone has been wonderful and has made me feel more welcomed than i’d ever imagine. certainly more so than the consultants we have in good old edinburgh. well, certain consultants. here, the attendings have absolutely NO ego i think. they actually make an effort to ask who i am, and introduce themselves to me when they noticed that i was an alien face. a surgical fellow was actually nice enough to bring me around to where i was supposed to go even though it was completely out of the way.

patients are nice too. even though the clinic i did this afternoon was a non-insurance one (ie public service), and hence was more “grotty and disgusting” (according to the resident), the patients, majority of which are african americans, have been absolutely majuuuhhh to me. one even asked the translator to tell me “you are beautiful.” thank god the translator was someone through a central translation service through a phone. i’d have died of embarassment (and a little bit of happy of cos :P) there and then otherwise.

i cant wait for tomorrow to begin. the only bad thing about starting the program is that i have less chance of talking to pt. and when i have time on my hands that i’m not actively doing something or being in touch with him..my mind drifts a lot. and tis not good. :(

ok. early bedtime for me. i feel this is going to make me a healthier person already. have a good week!
